self care Sunday - 5 ways to take care of you

Hey I get it, I’m a wife, mom, stepmom and I work full time in addition to my knit and crochet designing. We are BUSY. Yeah? Even if we don’t want to be, life happens and we get busy. Do you take care of you too though? Self care isn’t all bubble baths and pedicure although it can include those things too. It’s different for everyone. Not to add to your “to do” list but here are 5 ways I try (and don’t always succeed) to take care of me.

  1. Say no. Sometimes the best way to take care of you is to say no to extra projects, responsibilities, whatever. Learning how to say no, yeah, that’s another story. That’s a lifelong practice I will probably always be learning.

  2. Indulge a little. My thing is dark chocolate. I usually have some of the good expensive stuff at my work desk and eat a square when I feel need a little something to get me through the rest of the work day.

  3. Accept help if you need it. I hate asking for help with anything. I was raised that I should always Cowgirl Up and do it myself. Yeah… Sometimes you need help or at least someone to delegate stuff to. I’ve had to learn that being a little less fiercely independent is actually a good thing. (especially if it frees up more time to design stuff, yeah?)

  4. Do something you love. For me that’s knit and crochet. Visiting a yarn shop. Knitting at the pool. Basically anything with yarn. But also hiking, having coffee on the patio, watching a movie with my man, playing a game with the kids, talking to my oldest who is on the other side of the country right now. And sleep. I LOVE sleep. I can sleep in on the weekend like nobody’s business. Last time I did that my hubby said, wow you’re so…..not cranky! When you get 12 hours of sleep! Yep.

  5. Go back to the basics. You know - drink your water, eat your veggies, get some sleep, unplug from all the devices for a few minutes, go for a walk and get some air, take your medications, etc. Sometimes we forget to just do the most basic things our bodies need. Check in with yours and see what it’s needing today.
