So this is my favorite knitted dishcloth pattern. I got it from my mom and I'm not sure where she got it but I love it because it's easy and fun and it's just scrubby enough to be good for cleaning house as well as doing dishes. Here's the pattern!
Materials needed: 1 ball of Peaches n'Cream or Sugar n'Cream cotton worsted weight yarn (or your favorite cotton yarn), size 8 needles, scissors, yarn needle. Gauge is not too crucial with this but my gauge is: 13 rows & 8 stitches equal 2 inches, in the pattern stitch.
You'll notice the dishcloth is framed by 4 knit stitches on each side of each row and 6 rows of garter stitch on top and bottom.
To begin, cast on 38.
Knit 6 rows to make the garter stitch bottom border. Then begin the 4-row pattern:
Row 1: knit 4, then *knit 2, purl 1.* Repeat between the ** until the last 4 stitches, then knit 4 and turn.
Row 2: knit 4, then *knit 1, purl 2.* Repeat between the ** until the last 4 stitches, then knit 4 and turn.
Row 3: repeat Row 1. Turn.
Row 4: Knit every stitch across. This is what makes the little ridges every 4th row.
Repeat these 4 rows until the dishcloth is as long as you want it. I usually make them about 9 inches long.
To finish, knit 6 rows for top garter stitch border, then bind off and weave in your ends.
